Data protection in sport

We handle a wide range of data protection matters for our sports sector clients, from preparing responses to subject access requests, through making and defending privacy and confidentiality claims to defending regulatory action by the Information Commissioner’s Office.

To help our clients ensure their businesses are GDPR compliant we have developed a GDPR toolkit which allows NGBs, sporting venues and regional associations to assess their current compliance position against the requirements of GDPR. We then analyse this to produce a tabular report highlighting areas where compliance is achieved, where the business has a plan or route towards compliance, or where further action is required and, if so, in relation to what.

Experience

• A number of NGBs and other sports organisations – Advising a number of sports organisations (including the British Amateur Boxing Association and British Universities & Colleges Sport) on data protection and GDPR compliance. 
• Premier League football clubs – Advising football clubs (including EFC and MCFC) on data protection compliance and drafting a range of IT services agreements. 
• A sporting organisation – Advising on appealing a decision of the Information Commissioner in relation to data protection and privacy.
