Land assembly and compulsory purchase for Stoke-on-Trent University Quarter
Insight shared by:
We managed the land assembly and compulsory purchase of a 1.2 hectare landmark site opposite Stoke-on-Trent’s mainline railway station.
This facilitated the £65m relocation of Stoke-on-Trent’s Sixth Form College campus and the construction of Staffordshire University’s new Science Centre.
This involved acquiring 23 interests of predominantly run-down pubs, hotels, fast food retailers, and residential properties. We coordinated the compulsory purchase process between the various stakeholders, their project managers, and the Council’s solicitor, as well as overseeing all negotiations and approving deals with the respective claimants. We were delighted that the order was confirmed by the Secretary of State without amendment within 13 months of being advertised.
