We advised the buyer Gamechanger 20 Limited on the acquisition of Ipswich Town Football Club Company Limited from Marcus Evans Worldwide Holdings (IOM) Limited.
The deal sees the exit of Marcus Evans who has been at the helm of Ipswich Town for the past 13 years, although he will retain a 5% investment in the buyer. Former West Bromwich Albion Chief Executive, Mike O’Leary, has been appointed as the club’s new Chairman.
Much of the finance behind the deal is coming from US-based investment firm, ORG Portfolio Management group.
Corporate partners Paul Cliff and Mike Ward led the deal for Gateley Legal. They were supported by corporate solicitor Bahez Talabani. Colin Gittus and George Rickman advised on real estate matters.
Paul Cliff commented: “We are delighted to have advised Gamechanger 20 on the acquisition of Ipswich Town Football Club. I’m sure Ipswich Town will benefit greatly from the new owners’ commitment to investing in the club’s playing squad and infrastructure.”
